These days it seems everyone is trying to save a dollar here and there. The age of the do it yourselfer is upon us, and all of us friends and family of these types are suffering as a result. One such horror story came to me via and old school friend when catching me up on another mutual acquaintance. Our friend had created his own log home design after reading a book on how easy could be. Needless to say, this particular log home design didn’t turn out very well. The sad part to this story is he went ahead and started building his cabin based upon this ridiculous log home design.

Now I’m no expert on log home design, but as I understand it, the location where you build is a very large factor in the type of wood you must build with. Long story short, my friend had done his log home design with the wrong choice of wood for his particular region, and after only a few short months the wood began to rot due to the dampness common in that area.
