Custom Log Homes can be expensive

These days, who can afford to build a custom log home? Prices for a custom log home can skyrocket as high as five times as much as a kit home. Sure, with a kit home you have to select from a pre-designed floor plan, but isn’t that the way most of us shop for a home? Look at all the cases of folks starting to build their dream home and winding up penniless before the construction is complete. I’m sure the instance of this happening with custom log homes is just as common.

I know with this fad of log building happening, the idea is to break away from the mainstream and have something truly unique, but ask yourself this, with the small percentage of new log homes being represented in today’s real estate market, and the thousands of choices of kit homes available, do you really think you’d see another log home just like yours anywhere near you? Custom log homes just seem to me an extravagance that can be avoided if you actually sit down and weigh out the pros and cons.
