Restoring Classic Log Homes
Are the proud owner of an old log home that is a bit of a fixer upper? Dont be afraid, its perfectly alright to have to put a bit of elbow grease into your home. No one is going to do it for you (unless you pay them), and only you will know when your vision for the home is complete.
Restoring classic log homes is like restoring a traditional home- you just need to follow the right steps:
* Fix the exterior. Chances are good that the exterior has taken the beating over the years from the weather, its occupants, and just about everything else. Get out a bucket of stain and start from the ground up, ensuring that all of the wood is properly treated and maintained. Ask your local hardware store for tips on restoring the wood based on its condition.
* Revitalize the interior. Class log homes arent known for their contemporary interiors, so its up to you to bring it up to par. New appliances, floor tiling or hardwood, curtains, and drywall (if your home has any) can drastically reduce how old a home appears.
* Show off your wood. Your home is your pride, remember? Show it off by giving it a good clean, treating the exterior wood so that it remains weather proof, and accenting any particularly good areas with complimenting floral or furniture arrangements.
