Are Cedar Log Homes the Favorite?

In Canada, cedar log homes seem to be the choice for many builders. With cracked bark and spirals on the wood, cedar log homes definitely look the part of the old pioneer building. Being both abundant and strong, are two more reasons why cedar log homes are the favorite of many Canadian owners. Although not the cheapest wood available for log building, cedar is much more cost effective than some other types of wood, spruce for example. Another disadvantage to a cedar log home is if improperly treated it’s the fastest to rot.

With the building of log homes on the rise, it’s not surprising to see the question of ‘which wood is better’ being raised. Price, durability, and appearance are all factors to consider when choosing the wood for a log home. Whichever wood you choose, there is no right or wrong answer, just a matter of preference. One would expect, with pine being the more abundant and cheaper, it would be the choice wood, however Canadians have made their decision, and that’s cedar log homes.
